Russell Simmons steps down from firms following new accusation from author Jenny Lumet


Russell Simmons is stepping down from his varied companies following a brand new accusation of sexual misconduct towards him Thursday, in response to a statement he provided to The Hollywood Reporter.

The music mogul made the choice after new accuser, author Jenny Lumet (Rachel Getting Married), got here ahead in a visitor column with the leisure journal, accusing the Def Jam co-founder of forcing her to have intercourse in 1991.

“This can be a time of nice transition… I do not wish to be a distraction so I’m eradicating myself from the companies that I based,” he wrote. ” As for me, I’ll step apart and commit myself to persevering with my private development, religious studying and above all to listening.”

He added the the businesses will now be run by a “new and various technology of extraordinary executives” and that he’s changing his studio for yogic science right into a not-for-profit middle of “studying and therapeutic.”

Lumet, the daughter of director Sidney Lumet and granddaughter of singer/activist Lena Horne, mentioned the incident occurred when she was 24 after she was trapped in Simmons’ automotive and brought to his condo.
