Former aide says Rep. Trent Franks provided her $5 million to behave as a surrogate: AP

A former aide to Republican Rep. Trent Franks has informed The Related Press the congressman repeatedly pressed her to hold his baby, at one level providing her $5 million to behave as a surrogate.

The eight-term Arizona lawmaker abruptly resigned Friday, bowing to an ultimatum from Speaker Paul Ryan. Ryan informed Franks that he would refer the allegations to the Ethics Committee, and urged him to step apart.

The previous staffer mentioned the congressman requested a minimum of 4 occasions if she’d be keen to behave as a surrogate in change for cash. Franks, in his assertion asserting his resignation, mentioned he and his spouse have struggled with infertility.

The Related Press verified the identification of the staffer, who requested that her identify be withheld out of concern for her privateness, and confirmed that she labored in Franks’ workplace.
